Torture is not justified because it is moraly wrong. “The human person is a creation of God. Every inch of the human body and every aspect of the human spirit come from God and bear witness to his handiwork. We are made in the image of God.” (Gen. 1:26-28). Torture is a degrating thing to human kind. We as creations by God should not intentionaly harm other creations by God that are made in his image. Evangelics for Human Rights say that we should be able to see imprints of God in every individual. Another reason for being moraly wrong is that we are gaurded by the constitution against cruel and unusual punishment. When our constitution was made they new that torture would be a terrible act. Thats why we are protected from it. If we are protected and think that torture is an awful thing to do then why do it to other people.
ARGUMENT 3
•February 20, 2009 • 1 CommentTorture no matter what the situation is never the right act to do. It is true that people will tell information to stop extreme pain, but you have to ask yourself would that information be reliable. “Informatin is only reliabel if confirmed by two sources.” (Travis Hall) Usually the people that are planning terribel attacks are well trained and have an oath to not tell any information. So information that is obtained by torture can not always be considered true. Also, the “argument for torture is essentially a utilitarian.” (Evangelicals for Human Rights). Utilitarianism is a deeply flawed moral theory. All humans are created equally and under the image of God. Torturing dehumanizes human beings. Torture has many negative situations associated with it. For one you could kill an innocent human for all you know because they died before you recieved any information. Also, it can make a country like The United States look very bad when things go bad from torturing.
ARGUMENT 2
•February 20, 2009 • 1 CommentTorture can be justified in certain situations. Say that you are questioning someone that has information that could save thousands of American lives. The prisoner for some reason won’t tell you any information that you need to know. Torture even though it is wrong is the only way to get the information out of the prisoner. Torture is “better than saying please.” (Michael Allen) I know that sounds terrible, but it maybe the only thing to do. Say you have a group of terrorists that you know are planing to attack Americans on American soil. You capture one of the terrorists in the group. You know that he was helping to set off a nuclear bomb in a heavy popoulated area. Not only is torture “permissable, it is a moral duty.” (Charles Krauthammer) Even though the chance of this happening is rare it helps demonstrate that torture can be justified.
ARGUMENT
•February 6, 2009 • 1 CommentClaim: Yes torture can be justified in certain situations
Data: Extreme situations call for Extreme acts
Warrant: If someone has information to harm thousands of lives we should get the information out of them
Backing: When criminals shoot at cops the cops return fire even though all men are equal. If someone is willing to harm thousands of people it should be alright to harm them.
Rebuttal: Yes it is wrong and immoral to torture someone, but it is also wrong to plot against thousands of people and want to cause as much harm as possible to those people.
Qualifier: It is possible for torture to be justified. Torture is not justified in every situation.
Schoolyard Bullying
•October 17, 2008 • Leave a CommentAs i was reading the rss feed Health and Science for Time magazing this topic stood out from the rest. At first as i was reading it i didn’t really understand what it was saying. Then i started to think like a normal person and not over think it. All this article said was that a child who grows up with abussive parents or has parents that fight all the time or gets degrated all the time at home ends up more likely bullying other people. The kids that the bullies pick out are the ones that they feel are better than them. I didn’t really like this rss feed. I thought i would since i really enjoy science and some health. I guess i didn’t really like it cause all of the topics were about health mainly.
Scientific American 2
•October 15, 2008 • Leave a CommentSo i have been reading this rss feed from Scientific American: How Things Work and the article about how the sun is going to expand and burn up the earth really caught my attention. Scientists are arguing wether or not the earth is going to float away or float towards the sun as it expands over the next billion years. I have to say that i agree with the people that say that the earth is going to float away from the sun as it expands. Im pretty sure that scientists are saying that the earth is already moving away from the sun. I know it sounds pretty dumb to say but wouldn’t if the sun expands and we are moving then we would be fine. Haha.
Scientific American 1
•October 15, 2008 • Leave a CommentI read the rss feed from Scientific American about this new look on God by scientists. The article said that some people are starting to believe that if God is real he has no control or power or any idea of anything that goes in the universe. This theory couldn’t even be possible if they already believe that there is no God. Im not trying to force anybody to believe what i believe but this theory is just a bunch of bull. If God is real then he would have control over everything that is happening and that is going to happen in the universe. There would be no reason for a God if he had no idea about anything that went on. The only reason that people come up with these theorys is that nobody can wrap their minds around the idea that there is a higher person than them that created them and controled everything in the universe.
Blog Evaluations
•October 14, 2008 • Leave a CommentBlogs are the future. Blogs allow people to talk intellectually about topics of their interest and many other things. Every blog is not the same. All blogs appeal to different people in many ways. The three blogs I am evaluating have interesting topics, I can relate to them in some way, and make me think about them in depth.
Religion has always been something that has interested me. I am a religious person. The blog done by Kevin “How Does Religion Affect Your Thoughts on Abortion” got my attention. I agree with Kevin on the idea of abortion. Every child is a “is a blessing from God” and nobody has the right to take away that child’s life. After reading Kevin’s blog I read the editorial that he bloged about by Tom Ehrich. I agree with Tom when he says that “it all depends on who you ask”. The bible whether or not we like it shouldn’t always be taken literal but, there are exceptions. The verse Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” is on of those exceptions. This blog got me thinking about other things besides just abortion. Religion effects people’s beliefs on everything that that person does.
The blog Drew did called “Bye, Bye, Love…?” hits really close to home. My parents divorced when I was just a baby. This is why his blog caught my attention. As soon as I got old enough to understand how and why my parents divorced my life became just as Drew described it to. Divorce “wreaks havoc on not only families, but also on the way one lives.” The life in the family and your life totally change when this “disease” occurs within your family. As Drew said you don’t just recover from this “disease” and return to normal. This terrible thing is “a type IV radial fracture that requires surgery and post-operative treatment, but still leaves a scar.” You may recover from it but you still always have the marks that remind of this terrible thing. Drews blog got me to thinking about how my life would be different if my parents hadn’t of gotten a divorce. I really like it when things get me to think like that.
Jay’s blog “the Secret-Law of Attraction or Delusion?” was very interesting. I have read this book and it is very belivable, expecialy when you start using it and good things start to happen to you. I agree with Jay on the fact that the “Secret” is not a very good thing. The message it sends saying “that you should make yourself like God and control the way that the Universe treats you” is blasphemy. No one has the right to make themselves their own God! It is shocking that so many people have been swayed to believe this by “this snake in the grass.” After reading this blog I started to think more about The Secret. I still agree with Jay but, I started to wonder what if the secret was real. Then I thought that it can’t be because the bible says ask and you shall receive. Therefore proving that God is the one who gives you all this. You don’t achieve all this stuff by just thinking and acting like you already have it.
Blogs allow people to express their emotions and opinions over the world wide web. Blogs are being put on the internet every hour of every day. People are just waitin for you to open their blogs and start a convo or argument against them.
